Freddy Rubio

In 2003, motivated by the changing demographics of Alabama, Freddy Rubio left his career at the United States Post Office so that he could focus on, and complete, his education. After obtaining an accounting degree from UAB, Freddy applied and was accepted at Cumberland School of Law. That is when Freddy began his legal career where he is dedicated to discovering the truth and fighting for justice.

At Cumberland, Freddy focused on learning and developing trial skills and techniques that would prepare him to excel in the courtroom to obtain the best results for his clients. While in law school, Freddy earned the Scholar of Merit Award (top grade) in Advanced Trial Skills. He also travelled with Cumberland’s well-regarded National Trial Team where he earned a third-year practice card. That allowed him to participate in court trials under the supervision of a licensed lawyer. While in law school, Freddy clerked for the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and tried his first jury trial, where he secured a favorable verdict for the State of Alabama.

After graduating and becoming licensed to practice law in the State of Alabama, Freddy opened Rubio Law Firm. Since then, Rubio Law Firm has expanded to five attorneys and has also expanded the firm’s footprint to Georgia, where he is also licensed to practice law. While Freddy has tried cases in criminal court, domestic relations court, family court and bankruptcy court, most of his legal work involves personal injuries. His current cases involve car wrecks, trucking accidents, wrongful deaths case, and accidents with drunk drivers.Freddy developed a passion for helping people at his parent’s knees. That is the way he

has lived his life. That is the way he practices law. As an attorney, Freddy can now help, and has been consistently helping, others in their pursuit of justice. He explains the American judicial system to his clients so that they understand the process of a lawsuit.

Freddy believes that understanding the legal system and setting clear expectations with clients helps reduce his client’s stress and promotes confidence in the legal process. Freddy is always guided by the principle that every decision must be based on what is in the best interest to the client. He also believes that being prepared creates options. He is often heard saying: “We can always settle a case that we prepare for trial. But we can never try a case that we prepare to settle.”

Freddy also dedicates time each year to help state organizations, including HICA, Fiesta, Inc., and the Jefferson County Indigent Defense Commission. For 10 years, he served on the ACLU National Board of Directors. Freddy is an alumni of Leadership Birmingham and Leadership Alabama. He served as lawyer for the Birmingham City Council and the City of Tarrant and was an adjunct professor in basic skills of trial advocacy at Cumberland. Currently, Freddy serves on the board of directors for Voices for Children of Alabama and is a Bar Commissioner of the Alabama State Bar. Freddy lives in Irondale with his wife Leslie and two cats. He is an avid runner and active member at Grace Episcopal Church in Woodlawn.
